I went with a friend and want to start looking into Crochet. I bought a Crochet Hook which was way over priced - $30.95 for one Clover Amour Crochet Hook. Amazon sellers it for $9.99 and JOANN sells it for $7.99. There was no price label on the shelf and being a newbie I thought that was the price. I would not recommend buying any tools from them.

Whenever I travel, I always google local yarn shops. While vacationing in San Francisco this week, my daughter and I discovered Atelier Yarns in downtown SF. Having owned a yarn shop prior to opening my SAORI weaving studio, I have an eye for good yarn shops and luxury yarn. This shop gave us a "5 star" browsing experience in that regard ... Gorgeous yarn from some of my favorite high-end brands such as Freia, Mad Tosh, Dream, Shibui and Ito to just name a few. There was a wonderful selection of beautiful moderately priced yarn too, all organized by weight, so finding (what I didn't know I wanted) was easy. The employees there were welcoming friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable. They also offer classes and knitting groups both in person and via Zoom.
I usually decline signing up for Newsletters these days, but I actually want to keep in touch with what's going on with them.
Honestly, this was the highlight of our trip (aside from all the eating I've done!).
To top off what was a wonderful afternoon, I received a lovely email from Atelier's owner, Amanda this morning thanking me for our purchase, and inviting us to send pictures of the finished projects we make with their yarn. Terrific customer service!

1st stop on the Bay Area Yarn Crawl! Very large selection of specialty yarns in tons of colors. It's definitely great for a knitter.

SO SO DISAPPOINTING:
As a beginner I bought yarn and needles only to find that my yarn was very difficult to unravel. Brought it back with my Visa receipt and got lots of excuses for why they could not 'wind' it for me:
Miight be moths inside; they never sold that particular yarn; had to come back with specific store receipt.
I plan to show them a pic of my ladies' group and tell them I highly recommend they do business elsewhere.

I entered this well stocked and organized yarn store and was immediately greeted and advised about where each weight of yarn could be found. Love the nice staff and the array of beautiful yarns.

What a wonderful shop! The quality and variety of yarns is excellent, but the employees are even better. John and Lily were beyond helpful and gracious each time I came to the store. And when my family stopped in to buy me a gift, they remembered me and my favorites. Although I am in San Francisco as a guest, I will stop by each and every time I am here.

We got yarn here and found it overpriced compared to the online price after purchasing. It is fine as we basically support local small stores, but it was not just a little but more than twice expensive, so I called and asked why this yarn was too expensive compared to the online one(same brand and length), then the staff became very aggressive saying this and that and hung up the phone. I didn’t call to fight with anyone, I was curious why it was priced that high, and I asked to deliver my words to the owner so that they could balance out the price. We were so much looking forward to being the regular at this place, but ended up ruining our supposed to be a wonderful day.
